Drag File from Spotlight to Dock to Choose Application.

When you do a Spotlight search on your Mac, you don't need to double-click on your file to open it – just click it once.

There is another useful trick.

If you want a file to be opened by a particular programme, not the one that opens it by default, click and drag the file from Spotlight search window onto the Dock icon of that programme.

For example if you want a PDF to be opened by Acrobat instead of Preview. Or if you want Pages to open a Doc. file instead of Word of Open Office.
